Bishop Thomas C. Wallace
Bishop Thomas C. Wallace was born April 13, 1943 in Amonate, Virginia to Theodore Calvin Wallace, Sr. and Bonnie Goddard Wallace. He is the fourth child and second son of eight children. His family moved from Cincinnati to Lexington, Kentucky in 1954, where he accepted Christ, and assisted his now deceased parents, and other siblings, in founding the Church of Christ at 131 Prall Street, in Lexington.
He later met and married his late wife, Carolyn, and was blessed with five children, four daughters and one son. In 2011, he married the lovely Marcia Briscoe and through their union, gained two more daughters. It gives him great pride to say that his wife, daughters, Dana, Alicia, Rhonda, Cher, Jessica, and Kelsey, and son, Thomas Jr., strongly support his ministry, and have an allegiance to the Lord and His Church.
Before becoming a minister, he served as a Deacon at Prall Street Church of Christ. He was ordained Elder in 1974, and served for two years as the Minister to congregations in Harlan, Kentucky; Tazewell, Virginia; and Johnson City, Tennessee. He received his B.A. Degree in Biblical Literature from Simmons Bible College in Louisville, Kentucky and in 1997, the title of Bishop was bestowed upon him.
Since his ordination, Bishop Wallace has ordained numerous Elders, Ministers, Deacons, and Missionaries. Under his leadership, the church on Prall Street Church of Christ grew and underwent many changes for the glory of God, and the up building of his Kingdom. To date, several churches are under the auspices of his guidance and leadership.
Bishop’s vision to incorporate New Birth Church of Christ, Christian Ministries led to the purchase of three acres of land, and with the assistance of the membership, they constructed a beautiful new church facility. Upon the completion of the church’s building project, the congregation moved from the old site at 131 Prall Street, where we had worshipped for 42 years, to the new building, located at 1690 Russell Cave Road.
On July 21, 1999, the land mortgage was paid in full. The dedicatory service was held on Sunday, August 16, 2000.
Retirement from Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government allowed him to immerse himself into full-time ministry and furthering his education. This allowed him to complete a Masters in Christian Education at Asbury Theological Seminary.
Bishop Wallace continues to prepare men and women in the teaching, preaching, and serving ministry at New Birth. He has been blessed to have continued his ministry for forty-four years and is dedicated to continuing his work for the Lord, until he is no longer able.
